So you want to knit an Among Us crewmate, So did I, but I couldn't find on YouTube or anywhere a tutorial or pattern to knit one, only crochet. Now I have nothing against crocheting but I much prefer knitting. So I decided to try and make up a pattern so I could have my very own and I wanted to share it with you guys!

This pattern is free to show respect to the game developers, as they have expressed that they do not want fan art and creations based on the game to be sold for profit. So its your lucky day :)

If you have followed my videos on YouTube you will have seen the life-size among us crewmate I spent 5 weeks knitting (if not head on over to my YouTube page on this blog and you can find all the videos). I'm not sure why I did this but I love the result all the same.

Now I have done this, and re-knitted the below pattern a few times, it is time to share it with you guys. I have a YouTube tutorial giving a visual guide on how to knit the crewmate and what each stage should look like so check that out if you get stuck. I am also happy to reply to any comments if you are confused.

Materials

Yarn: weight 5 chunky/bulky yarn. I would recommend “Colour Made Easy” by Lion brand (click here** to go to Lion Brand’s website), as it has a nice selection of colours and is incredibly soft and cuddly.

Quantities: (all quantities are approximate)

20g main colour

5g black dk yarn

10g grey/white/blue yarn for visor

Needles: 4mm needles for the icord trim

6.5mm circular needles

Any polyester toy stuffing (if you’re ordering from Lion Brand they have “Fiberloft Polyester Stuffing” which you can again get to with this link**)

Tapestry needle

Scrap yarn to hold stitch

Abbreviations

BOR: beginning of the round, this is the marker you place when joining the work in the round.

PM: Place stitch marker

K: knit

Inc 1: increase the stitch by 1 (also known as KFB). To do this you will knit into the stitch

normally, but do not slip the old stitch off of the left hand needle yet, knit into the back of

the stitch then slip the old stitch off, you should have 2 stitches coming from that one

previous stitch.

M1R: Make 1 Right leaning increase→ Pick up the bar with the right hand needle between the

stitch you just knit and the next stitch from back to the front. Knit into the front of the

stitch.

M1L: Make 1 Left leaning increase→ Pick up the bar with the right hand needle between the

stitch you just knit and the next stitch from front to the back. Knit into the back of the stitch.

SSK: Slip Slip Knit- Slip 2 stitches knitwise, then transfer them back to the left needle and knit

them both through the back loop

K2Tog: knit 2 stitches together

Final measurement- this is NOT for the life sized crewmate. The crewmate resulting from this pattern will be around 6 inches tall, 3 inches wide and 3 inches in depth.

Techniques

Knit stitch; Purl stitch; K2tog; SSK; M1L; M1R; KFB; Longtail cast on; Magic loop; gathering stitch; Standard bind off; Mattress stitch; Stuffing; I-cord; Invisible seam; Running stitch

Main body

Leg 1

** Cast on 4 stitches using the longtail cast on, PM (BOR).

Join the work in the round and knit using the magic loop

method.

Round 1 K to BOR

Round 2- Inc 1 in every stitch

Round 3- k1, M1L, k4, M1R

Round 4-12 K to BOR**

Break the yarn leaving a long tail, Then Place this leg on some scrap yarn or a spare needle.

Leg 2

Repeat from ** to ** above.

Body

Using the backwards loop method, cast on 2 stitches.

Place the other leg on spare needles and knit all stitches of the second leg.

Once you have knit all the stitches, Pick up 2 stitches from the cast on edge then continue to knit until the BOR.

Row 2- K11, SSK, K2, K2Tog, K to BOR

Row 3-23 K to BOR

At this point, stuff the plushie. I used polyester stuffing and to stuff the crewmate make sure you use small amounts of stuffing to build it up. Start by stuffing them at the bottom of the legs and building it up.

Row 24- 3 times, k2tog 3 times, ssk 3 times, k2tog 3 times

Row 25- Ssk 2 times, k2 tog 1, ssk 1, k2tog 2--

Add some extra stuffing as needed at the top of the head, then cut the yarn leaving a long tail. Thread the tail onto a darning needle, and slip the stitches from the left hand needle and follow round until the needle has passed through all the stitches, pull it tight to close the hole at the top, then weave in the rest of the tail.

Backpack/life support/jetpack thing?

Using the long tail cast-on method, cast on 5 stitches

Row 1 & all odd (RS) row unless otherwise stated: K all st

Row 2 & all even (WS) row unless otherwise stated: P all st

Row 3: K all st, using backwards loop cast on 3 st

Row 4: P all st, using backwards loop cast on 3 st

Rtow 13: bind off 3 stitches, k to end

Row 14: Bind off 3 stitches, p to end,

Row 17 Bind off all 5 remaining st (using standard bind off method), cut the yarn leaving a 12 inch/30cm tail (this will be used to sew the piece together).

Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle and sew the four corners together to make a square (breaking the yarn and tying it off at each corner).

Then sew three of the sides backpack to the back of the crewmate (i used the invisible seam shown here https://www.stitchandstory.com/blogs/knitting-tips/sewing-up-vertical-horizontal)

Stuff the backpack firmly then sew the final side on (ensuring the longer sides are vertical and the shorter side of the square is horizontal.

Visor

Using the long tail cast-on method, cast on 5 stitches

Row 1- Purl

Row 2- k1, M1R, k to 1 st left, M1L, K1

Row 3- Purl

Row 4- k1, M1R, k to 1 st left, M1L, K1

Row 5 Purl

Row 6- Knit

Row 7- Purl

Row 8- K1, SSK, K to 3 st, K2Tog, K1

Row 9- Purl

Row 10- K1, SSK, K to 3 st, K2Tog, K1

Row 12 Purl

Row 12- Bind off all 5 st using the standard bind off method (leaving a 8 inch/20cm tail)

Thread the tapestry needle with the tail of the visor. Using the running stitch technique, sew the visor onto the front of the crewmate (leaving a small hole to stuff the visor) once the visor is stuffed, sew the final bit to the crewmate.

Black trim (I-cord)

Using the knitted cast on method, cast on 3 stitches

Knit 3 stitches

**Slip those three stitches back to the left hand needle

Knit 3 stitches **

Repeat from ** to ** until it is long enough to just fit around the circumference of the visor snuggly.

(the yarn will be coming from the stitch furthest from the tip but this is how it is supposed to be)

Once it is long enough bind off the 3 stitches using the standard bind off method, ensuring to leave at least a 4 inch (10cm) tail.

Seaming the icord-

Thread the tapestry needle with the tail of the icord. I’m not the best at describing the grafting process but Hooked by Robin had done an amazing video describing how to do this, the only difference is we have 3 stitches rather than 4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8j9ZU86CPI&ab_channel=HookedbyRobin

You can attach the trim in whatever way you prefer, some like using a running stitch through the

Now to attach the trim to the outer edge of the visor, by going under the bar between stitches on the icord and using a running stitch method on the body. Feel free to attach it in a different way if you prefer.
