5 Quick hand knit gifts for your loved ones this holiday season

smiklegoesknitting

Now, we all know those people who are ready for Christmas in mid-October, but sadly, I’m not one of those people. If you are reading this blog post, then I am going to assume you aren’t either. If you are like me, you also don’t want to just buy a present and give it to your loved ones for the sake of it. You want something with meaning, something they can cherish, not something they could get for themselves. Don’t you fear, this post has got you covered, below I have 5 quick to knit Christmas gift ideas that your loved ones can cherish and even better, can be done in time for Christmas, because let’s face it, you don’t have time to knit 5 scarves.

Scrunchie

A scrunchie is a perfect gift for loved ones with long hair because:

Scrunchies have made a comeback and are now popular again

They are quick to knit (I can knit multiple in a few hours)

They can be knit by anyone no matter what knitting level you are at

They are so popular that there are loads of free patterns!

Here is a free pattern describing a technique I used for 90% of the scrunchies I have made (apart from I used pre-made hair bands rather than sewing elastic together to make the hairband).

Tie

Now I know a lot of us have been working from home thanks to that dastardly ‘Rona, but there will be a time when people will return to the office and can no longer get away with working in lounge wear or even pj’s. Thus a tie would be a lovely present and a somewhat symbol of hope to get back to a life we once knew of office work, weddings and functions.

Ties are yet another quick knit and there are a few free patterns I have found for you to knit for your tie-wearing loved one.

Here is my favourite pattern that I think you would love.

BrianaKdesigns: Bradford tie

Coaster/placemat

On the note of ‘Rona, it’s undeniable that we have been spending more time at home and maybe even being more adventurous with our cooking. Well I know you don’t want to leave marks all over the table or dinner tray from overuse. The best way for you to avoid this is with placemats!

Placemats and coasters are so easy and quick because you can just kit a large square and a smaller square and that's it! Obviously if you want to jazz it up you can knit different stitches and maybe add colorwork, it’s totally up to you!

Here is a free pattern for 3 different coasters which can be adapted to be placemats.

Note: I would use a cotton based yarn as this fibre is better at handling higher temperatures than others!

Ear saver

Again ‘Rona means we are now wearing masks in indoor spaces and in some cases everywhere we go outside of the home. I don't know about you but this has led to some soreness behind my ears from constant irritation from the straps of the mask. One fix for this is an ear saver, for most patterns all you will need is a small amount of yarn and 2 buttons to hold the mask.

These are quite small and easy to knit for all levels so you can knit one for each of your loved ones. Here is a free pattern that I will be using to make some ear savers.

Among us crewmate

If you know me, you know my current obsession is Among Us and I suspect, with how popular the game has become, that someone you know is obsessed too! Well I got you covered, I have designed and written up a free pattern to knit a 6 inch tall Among us crewmate which can be knit up in a few hours!

Check out the free pattern here!

I hope you enjoyed this post! And I’d love to see your Christmas creations!
